Catching up...

I have had a few minutes this afternoon so I have tried to catch up some with my blog. It has been a very busy but enjoyable summer. Friday the 13th, Laurie donated a kidney to a friend. I am so glad to report that today she is finally beginning to feel better. She had a ROUGH first week but hopefully she will get a good report from her Dr. next Thursday. Today, she got a big surprise when Melissa Hicks and Audrey Dawkins showed up at her door. Those are great friends from many, many years back!!!

Jessica got started in school and seems to be doing great! She did come down with a sinus infection the first week-but has finally been able to knock it out!!!

Louise is expecting Ellie around the 20th of Sept. so we are all getting really excited. Before we can turn around good-it will be Thanksgiving and Christmas! Hopefully, our weather will cool down some! Hope you all are having a great fall!

Franklin, NC 2010

We met Kenny's Mom and Dad, Kerry and Becky, Toni and Chris and Beth and Scott in Franklin, NC. Kerry, Becky, Toni, Chris and Kenny went hiking one day and the second day, Kenny and Toni stayed back and took Jess and me riding around looking at the waterfalls-while Kerry, Becky and Chris hiked to see the scenery! We had a nice cabin and the weather was so nice-you could sit out on the deck and not sweat or get eat up by bugs! It was a very enjoyable and relaxing 3 days!

Panama City Beach 2010

We were able to take a long weekend off and head to Panama City. It was such fun and we think this was the first real vacation that just the 3 of us have been on. Jess enjoyed the pool and Kenny and I enjoyed just relaxing and spending time together!

We had a very busy and exciting summer-actually it started the end of school. Jordan graduated from Faulkner, along with Walker; and Kenny received his Masters from VSU! We did alot of swimming-Tressie got married and Jordan and Tiffany came and spent the 4th of July with us! All of this was before our actual vacation and with me trying to work at least 3 days a week!!!

Sock Hop

On last Thursday, March 25, MBS had a Sock Hop to raise money for their Relay for Life team. It cost the kids $1.00 to go and what fun they had! About half way through-you guessed it-ELVIS WAS IN THE BUILDING!!!! He was really good and the kids all loved it. Jess wore her puddle skirt that KaKa made for Halloween a few years ago! I have to say, she was too cute-and everyone else thought so too!

Future Vikings 2010

For the last 2 years, Lowndes High has sponsered a Future Vikings Day for all the Sp. Ed. kids in the county. This year it was alot of fun, again. Jessica really likes it because they have the gym floor covered with balloons and music blasting! It was a great day and a super thing for the high school kids to do...Thanks to all who helped! Special Olympics 2010

On the 4th of March, we went to Freedom Park in Valdosta to participate in the spring Special Olympics. IT WAS SOOOO COLD!! But everyone really had a good time. It has taken me awhile to get the pictures posted but here are a few.

We really had a great time in the snow. Jess first got in it in Atlanta and then in Nashville. She really enjoyed it, even though we were not too prepared as we didn't have gloves and those hands really get COLD.

Valentine's Day 2010

Kenny, Jess and I left Atlanta on Sunday morning, met Laurie in Chattanooga for church and then headed to Knoxville to see the Lady Vols play the Lady Gators of Florida. It was a GREAT day and a super way to spend Valentine's Day. We got to Knoxville in time to grab a burger and do some shopping-notice Jess and I got matching Lady Vol sweatshirts! Laurie bought Jess a Lady Vols T-shirt for V-day and of course she picked up a few other things too! We had to walk a ways to get to the gym and it was cold, in fact, it snowed on us walking over-but everyone made it fine. Even Jessica walked her little legs off trying to keep up!!! Once we got inside, we found our seats and even with all the picture taking-got to enjoy a terrific game! Lady Vols won by 40!!! What more could you want to Valentine's Day-a TN basketball game, with the girls' winning-a trip with the family and SNOW!

We had a great time and I hope we get to do it again-this time with a few more guest!!!(All my nieces were mad because they didn't get to go!)

On Monday, Kenny, Jessica and I woke up in Nashville at the home of my cousin. It was a beautiful snowfall, since when we had come in on Sunday night it was just cold. We enjoyed a delightful breakfast with Maribeth, Aunt Mary and Maribeth's daughter, Hollie. Maribeth went to China two years ago and adopted Hollie and I have to say she is a great addition to our family. We spent most of the morning playing in the snow, then we left and went to see my Dad's sister who has been in the hospital for the last week or so. "Kankie", as we all call her, celebrated her 90th birthday on Sunday and had to be put in the hospital on Tuesday. Hopefully she will be able to go home tomorrow. We are so thankful that we had the opportunity to go and see her and got to spend some time with Aunt Mary, Maribeth and Hollie.

On Sunday, we went to see the Lady Vols play Florida and I hope to get pictures posted from that soon.

What a great Valentine week-end...The Lady Vols, Snow and a long week-end with the fam!!!

Better Late Than Never...Jess' b-day!

Finally, I have gotten the pictures loaded onto my computer and had a minute to sit down and blog! We had to put Jessica's party off the first time because she was sick. Then the following Sunday...Kenny's Mom and Dad were sick, my Dad was out of town and Mom had some kind of eye infection, so she came but wouldn't get close to anyone!!! BUT-we had a good party with Jeff and Austin, Karen and Ervin AND Samantha and Laurie from Montgomery!!! Also this was our first family party with kids, Stephanie and her family moved down during the summer so they were able to come to the party, too. Once again, Karen did a great job on the cake! It's hard to believe that "my baby" is 9! What a blessing she has been to our family. Please keep her in your prayers as we are going through an issue with her neck--nothing serious and in fact we got a good report from the neuro-surgeon in Augusta but it is something that we will have to keep an eye on! We are very thankful for the happy and heathy life that she has been able to enjoy and pray that this will continue!

GREAT AUNT

I have always considered myself a great aunt! Since the day Laurie was born right through Samantha, I always took my "responsibility" pretty seriously. I can honestly say that each time-Laurie, Louise, Leigh, Walker, Kristen and Samantha-I was always super excited!!! With each new niece and the only nephew, Walker, I was just as thrilled when each was born. Since during much of the kids growing up days, I was single and honestly tried to do EVERYTHING that they wanted!

Today, something very special happened--I found out that I am truly going to be a GREAT AUNT!!! Louise and Dirt are expecting their first child, Don and Jamie's first grandchild, Laurie and Leigh's first niece or nephew, Mom and Dad's first Great-grandchild and mine and Karen's first GREAT NIECE or NEPHEW!!!!! I am so excited and happy for us all but especially for Louise and Dirt. They are going to be great parents. The big day should be September 22 or 23. CONGRATULATIONS TO US ALL!!!!!!!! !Be watching for continuing updates and please keep Louise and baby in your prayers that all will go well!

P.S. I wrote this right after Louise called and couldn't post it and I just got back to the computer!! But we are STILL excited!

On Saturday following Christmas, the boys all come up from Tallahassee. Nathan had been there since Christmas Eve. It was so good to see them all and get to spend some time just visiting. We had sandwiches for lunch when they arrived and then ate leftovers at the Holtons for dinner. As they continue to get older it seems like we have less and less time with all three of them together. Jordan stayed until New Years Eve so we had a great visit with him!

We had Christmas with my side of the family at our house on Christmas Eve. Mom and Dad made mexican food-not very tradition but we all loved it! Don, Jamie and the girls + Dirt-didn't get to come down this year. Mom and Dad went up to Tennessee by way of Trenton on the Sunday following Christmas so they did get to spend some time with them. We missed them all being here, but are looking forward to at least Laurie being here for a few days the middle of January!

School got out this year at noon, so we decided to have breakfast for our "party food". It turned out great! We had pancakes, bacon, muffins, juice, milk and coffee! After we ate, the kids got to play a few minutes and then...Santa arrived! Most of the kids were excited and it was really fun to watch them. After Santa headed back to the North Pole to finish Christmas jobs, everyone got to open their gifts. It was like Christmas morning and really fun!

A big thanks, as always but never enough, to Jessica's teachers-Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Melissa and Mrs. Charlotte!!!!!

Holidays...OVER!

I'm way behind, but we had a great holiday! We had an opportunity to celebrate with Mom, Dad, Karen, Ervin and their kids on Christmas Eve and with the Holtons on Christmas Day. It's nice to live close enough to get to celebrate with most all of the families every year! Don and his family didn't get down this year and Kerry and Becky didn't get to come either-WE MISSED ALL OF YOU!!!!

The Boys got to come on Saturday and Jordan got to stay and spend a few more days. He graduated from Faulkner this past semester and we are sooooo proud of him. He will be walking in graduation in May and hopefully he will have a job by then. He had an interview in Nashville in Dec and is suppose to hear something the middle of this month-say a special prayer!

Hopefully, in the next day or two I will get some pictures posted. I have been helping up at the office, so my time is limited since I am working just about every minute that Jess is in school. I even had to hire Samantha and Kristen over the holidays! I'm not a real good working Mom-hats off to all of you who do it so well!!!

The last few months of 2009 were kind of tough around the Holton home but we are all, including Kenny's sister, trying to get some sort of normal life back. Hoping that 2010 is a better year for us ALL! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Birthdays Week-end

The week-end of November 7-8, Jordan came home to celebrate our birthdays. We had a great week-end-he came in on Thursday and stayed through Sunday, spending almost ALL the time with us!!! On Friday night, Jordan, Kenny and I went to see "The Christmas Carol, 3-D". It was good, of course, you already know the story, so there is no surprise ending-but we had fun and it got me in the holiday spirit! On Saturday, Kenny and Jordan helped "Papaw" with some of his outdoor holiday decorations, then Jordan went to the VSU game with Heather and Wade. That evening, we all meet Mom, Dad, Karen and Ervin for a birthday dinner in town. It was nice to be able just to sit and visit since it had been awhile since they had seen Jo. Sunday was dinner at the Holton's. Kenny's aunt and uncle were here from OK. so Beth, Tressie, Toni and Chris all came down from ATL. I would like to say it was for the b-day celebration, but I really don't think so! We had a great lunch and wonderful visit with everyone. Sunday was also Justin's (Kenny's niece's husband) birthday, too so we had a BIG party! One party for all 3-that makes it so easy on everyone! Shortly after lunch, Jordan had to head back to Montgomery--HOPEFULLY TO BE FINISHING UP IN DEC!!!!! So the week-end long celebration ended but it was a great way to get to spend your birthday!

We had a great time yesterday at our Halloween Party at school. I made lunch for everyone and I must say-I think everyone enjoyed it. We had "jack-o-lantern" grilled cheese sandwiches, cheese curls, orange juice boxes and homemade cupcakes! Can't beat that, surely it was better than school lunches! ;) After we ate, it was time to carve our pumpkin! I have to say-Jess really enjoyed that!

Fall Break

On Monday morning, we got up and headed to Atlanta. Kenny had a meeting downtown so Jess and I went along for the ride. We were able to check into our hotel early, so Kenny left us there for the afternoon. I tried for 2 hours to get Jess to take a nap and after no luck, called Toni and Chris, Kenny's sister and brother-in-law, to come over and visit! Shortly after they arrived, Kenny got back so we went across the highway and shopped for awhile and then went and had dinner. After dinner, everyone needed to head to their own "quarters" and settle in for the night.

Tuesday morning, Kenny, Jess and I left the hotel and headed for Burt's Pumpkin Patch. It was about 2 hours north of our hotel so we decided it would be worth the drive. It was a beautiful, but COOL morning. When we arrived at the pumpkin patch it was around 40 degrees. That didn't stop us and Jessica was amazed at all the pumpkins-so amazed we could not get her to look up for pictures-had to see all the pumpkins. After we selected our pumpkins, all we could get in the car, we started south. I am so thankful that we got up early so we were able to get back home around 4. It was a great trip and is always fun to take Jess-but so nice to be home in time for everyone to relax. It's also nice that Wednesday is Monday for Jess at school and Kenny at work-so we will all enjoy the short "work" week!!

CATCHING UP...

So much has happened since the middle of September, and my last post! First, let me begin by saying that the job did NOT work out. I had really more responsibilities than I had originally thought and I wasn't getting off when I thought I was going to be able to. This my all sound silly but I just was not up to it! I was missing events Jess was doing and was going to have to miss more and several days I hardly had time to get home and eat before I had to pick Jessica up.

Two weeks after I had started my job, Jessica got sick! She was sick for 12 days! Too long for me to be in the house with her and too long to have to decide everyday what I was going t0 do about my job. So, I quickly decided that at this time, it just wasn't the thing for me to do! Jess was sick with some kind of stomach virus and I didn't think she was every going to get over it! Thankfully, after 12 days-she was cleared to be back at school! Since then she has really been doing well!

Last week she went to Special Olympics. On Tuesday, we did bowling and on Thursday, we had basketball and soccer skills! She did well and that was such a great experience, again this year! The Valdosta/Lowndes Parks and Rec Dept. helps head it up and volunteers come from local high schools, VSU and Moody. It is so inspiring to watch those kids participate and receive their ribbons!

Jess is on fall break today and tomorrow so we are just going to enjoy the cooler weather! It has been BEAUTIFUL and the forecast says that we will be back in the 80's later in the week--so enjoy!

WHAT AM I THINKING???

Almost 9 years ago, Jessica was born! Since that time I have not had a full-time job. I started subbing at the school that she attended-but never worked too much. A couple of times I have done long-terms but again I'll say...never FULL-TIME!

Last Wednesday night, a friend that I have taught for in Quitman, called me and out of the clear blue asked me if I would be interested in teaching her pre-school class at her daycare. She opened a daycare last year. Well, after talking with her, I decided to go and talk to her business partner and the next thing I know I am employed!

I started today and only work from 8-noon. There is a girl in the class with me and today we had 14 3 and 4 year olds! The problem has been that the girl that was teaching, didn't have any discipline-so just guess how today went? I am hoping that after a week or two of repetition on classroom rules, we will have a good year! I have school holidays off and they are very understanding that Jess has Dr. app't and is prone to get sick.

So after thinking of every excuse I could, my "mornings of leisure" are over! WHAT AM I THINKING???

Time Marches On...

I can not believe that it is already Labor Day!!! I know Jess started school way too early but where is the time going?

We had an extremely hard August! On the 13th, Kenny got a call telling him that his nephew in Tennessee had killed himself. Needless to say, we were in shock!!! Time seemed to come to a complete stand-still. It is hard for me to believe that it has only been 2 weeks ago today that we buried Matt! On one hand it seems like it has been forever and on the other hand it is still all too fresh! The hurt and emptiness left just will not go away. I find myself going through the day and then all of a sudden something happens that reminds me of him. Time will make things better and we have so many good memories but it is so tragic when someone so young and so alive takes his own life---it just isn't right!

So from the 13th until the 31st-the days passed and now we are getting ready for a dinner in Atlanta for RTV and already trying to plan for Jessica's fall break. By the way, we went this morning for our sedated EEG at the hospital and the children's ward was full and the Dr. nor Jessica's parents wanted to run the risk of her catching something while she was up there...so I guess we will re-schedule!!!

Also during Aug., the girls' house got broken into in Montgomery and Leigh has gone to London and Paris for 10 days! Kristen has started her 2 quarter of "beauty school" and I guess Samantha is settling into college...she needs to call her Gin-Gin!!!!!! Louise is the stable one in the clan and she just takes care of what anyone needs!!!!! Love all you girls!!!!!

Well, it finally happened!!! Samantha had to leave for college! Don't get me wrong, I am so excited for her! I hope she gets in school and has a great time! BUT...I am really going to miss her! She has been around us for soooo long! She has been Jessica's "go-to" babysitter! We always felt comfortable leaving her with Jessica and like I have said before, she takes better care of her than me, sometimes! On Friday afternoon, Samantha came over-crying, because she had just left school, telling everyone good-bye-and wanted us to go eat with the "fam" at Red Lobster. So we met Mom, Dad, Karen, Ervin and Sam at 7 for dinner. The meal went well, but when we got outside to say our farewells, it wasn't as good! The tears started flowing and by the time Samantha picked up Jess to hug her and say good-bye-I was completing loosing it!!! I know, I know...she'll be fine and so will we! It's just a part of life that when you are right in the middle of it, it doesn't seem like if will be alright!

She made it to school with her parents and they got her all set up. Rumors are that when Karen and Ervin left Montgomery it was pretty tramatic, too. But, reports are now that Samantha is getting use to her new surrounding and adjusting well, I knew she would! With both siblings and 3 cousins and an in-law over there, she hasn't gotten away from family...just different ones!

Good luck, Samantha! We love you and know you will be a great success! BUT...we DO still miss you!!!!

First Day of School

Well, the first day of school is here! It seems like our summer went by so fast! We went to Open House and Jessica sat down in her seat and tried to "strap" herself in...I think she is ready for another year of school. We have our same teachers and are looking forward to a great year!!!

Myrtle Beach

We went to Myrtle Beach with Kenny's Mom and Dad the end of July. We really had fun and Jess loved the beach. We got to go to the Braves' farm team game and we went on Tuesday night and Tim Hudson pitched on Thursday!!! It was great fun. The rest of the time we just relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. The condo had a "lazy river" that was Jessica's favorite! She can flat lay back and relax! A big thanks to Nana and Papaw for inviting us to go with them!!!

BEACH!!!!!

For a quick up-date...we made it through Jessica's EEG, even kept her awake from 1 AM until we got the the Dr.'s office. After we got her wired up, she was WIRED! She could not go to sleep and couldn't even lay still! After only about 5 minutes of her being still enough to get a read, the Dr. decided we need to try again another day!! This time he will sedate her but when he said we would have to do it again-I thought he was going to have to sedate ME!!!!! We made it through and we will again but hopefully this time will be easier.

After a very busy week, we are looking forward to heading off to Myrtle Beach tomorrow! I am not worried about the weather, I am just ready for a day or two away to relax!!!

It is hard to believe that school starts in about 2 weeks! It really seems like it has been a fast summer, even with me getting to entertain Jessica EVERYDAY!!! She is such a sweet heart but it is nice when I have alittle time to myself! That sound pretty bad, huh? Hope you have a good week!!!

TONIGHT!!!

Tonight as you all get all snug and comfortable in your beds, please think of me! Tomorrow Jessica has another sleep deprived EEG. It is scheduled for 8 AM, so hopefully by 9:30 we will be finished and heading home. The real catch to this is that after midnight tonight...she is suppose to stay awake!!! Sounds like fun, huh? She is asleep right now (6:30) and has been for almost an hour. I am hoping that she can sleep until close to midnight! She has already had dinner and 2 tsp. of allergy medicine, so hopefully she will be out until 12.

The bad part is I need to be sleeping, too-and just can't seem to settle down. Maybe when it gets dark-9:30, I be able to sleep a couple of hours-if she is still down!

Then you have to go through the wires being "glued" to her head, which she REALLY enjoys!!! NOT!!!! And then she is suppose to lay still, or sleep while they flash lights all at different speeds. It is really something everyone would love!

But, if she will just sleep awhile now, we will make it through it. It may take a 3 AM trip to Wal-Mart and a 6:30 trip to Cracker Barrel for breakfast but ...this too shall pass---SLEEP WELL!

We were lucky on the night of the 4th to be able to step out on our front yard and enjoy our very own fireworks. One of the new houseparents at the children's home, put on a great show for the kids and those of us who walked outside to see! THANKS, CHRIS! Can't wait til next year!

What A Week!

It has been awhile since I have been able to blog! It is funny how much time I really do have during school verus Jess being at home ALL day! We spend most of our time in the pool-getting ready to go to the pool-or getting dried and clothes back on after the pool! Oh...don't forget I still need to keep clothes washed, house picked up and sorry,Kenny-usually I run out of steam before dinner!;)

This past week, Laurie came over on Monday and stayed until Wed. afternoon. It was so nice to see her and get to visit with her. On Tuesday night we had a "31" party. This is a fairly new business that Laurie has just started in. We had a good time and got to visit with people that neither one of us had seen in awhile! Thanks for coming Laurie-it was great and come back soon. By the way, if you are interested in seeing the product you can contact Laurie, Melissa Hicks or me-we are all going to try our hands at the business!

I can't believe that it is already the 4th of July! The summer is flyng by! We have a quiet week-end planned-work some around the yard and house, hang out at the pool and possible throw a hamburger or hot dog on the grill. Hope you all will take time to remember our service people who are helping to help defend our country and protect our freedom!

Please remember Louise in your prayers. She had surgery today and is going to be recoverying for several day. Hopefully, she will be ok by Monday and Dustin will be able to go back to work and Louise will be ok with Laurie and Leigh just checking on her. Jamie and I both offered to come down and help but Louise assured us both she would be ok.

On the morning after Samantha's graduation, Kenny and I got up at 4 AM and headed to Jacksonville. (Jess stayed with Louise, Dirt and Leigh until they could meet up with Mom and Dad.) We flew out for Branson, Missouri to finally end up in Neosho! We had a lay-over in Atlanta and met Jeff, Christal, Megan, Toni and Chris and we all made the 2nd leg of the filight together. Susanna, Kerry's youngest, got married on Sunday. Jeff, Christal, Megan, Kenny and I got into Neosho and checked into the hotel-Neosho is a story all it's own-and were able to help Kerry and Becky out at the wedding "venue". The wedding actually took place in a pasture! In fact, guest rode a hay wagon down to the site! I have to say, it was different! But, the kids had built an arbor and Becky had really worked hard on the reception, which was BEFORE the wedding! And with no electricity-that was quite an accomplishment! The ceremony itself was really sweet! Kerry performed it and did a great job.

After the ceremony, we headed to Branson for a couple of nights. Jeff, Christal and Megan flew out on Monday and Toni and Chris came to Branson with Stephanie and her kids for the night before we all flew home together! Monday night, Stephanie went with Kenny and me to a show while Momma T and Pappa C babysat! While we were in Branson we were able to visit with Kenny's aunt and uncle from Oklahoma. It is always good to get to see Bob and Virginia.

On Tuesday, we all got up to head to the airport! After a 2 1/2 hour delay in Branson and fortunately a delay in Atlanta-Kenny and I made the plane to Jacksonville. We were late getting home and Mom had been sick all day Tuesday, so Karen and Ervin were at the house with Jess. Thanks to Mom and Dad and Karen and Ervin!!

After what turned out to be a super long day, we were glad to be home but so glad that we had been able to work it out to go! I wish I could write like Laurie because I promise I could have you all cracking up about the entire trip. Now that all the TICKS are off of us, we are settled in for the summer!!!

I have been neglectful in blogging about Samantha's final days of high school. I know we have been here before and with each niece/nephew graduating it seems to bring a different feeling...but Samantha has been around our house so much since Jess was born and especially since we moved to Dasher! She has been my "go-to" babysitter, picker-up from school person, and many other "duties as assigned", but I have done some things for her, too-not that either one of us are keeping score!!!

I was feeling really bad about not updating my blog...until I checked out everyone else's and realized everybody must be busy, or at least enjoying the summer, too! We had a great last day of school! The teachers and one of the Dad's cooked breakfast-eggs, bacon, grits and hash browns! It was great and the kids loved it, of course we had the entire school building smelling like bacon so everyone was coming by to check it out! Then for lunch the teachers bought all the kids Happy Meals and I had volunteered to make a cake and bring ice cream. Why do I always open my mouth about my ideas, instead of just surprising people? I had the idea of getting Samantha to help me decorate a cute summer cake. Samantha was busy with her school closing so I had to make it on my own-remember, I am not a cake decorator-maybe I should have called Ryan Jackson;) I am going to try and post my collage and Jess is up so we are going to try and hit the pool before any more rain!!!! More update to follow, I hope!

I agree with Amy-you have to live through school closing to fully appreciate it and when you are involved with two-it's "double trouble"! Last Thursday, Samantha had her Sr. year Athletic Banquet. She was recognized and received several awards, but I have to think back on being able to watch her develop and grow over the past years. She really turned into a great leader and hard worker! It has been our privilege to watch her. Most of you know I enjoy sports anyway, but being able to watch her has been so much fun. Thankfully, when Jess wasn't able to go, Kenny would stay at home and let me go, but most of this year, Jess has gone and LOVED it-of course she LOVES Samantha! As graduation approaches, I really am having to try and realize that she is just beginning her life and that probably means leaving us behind, but I hope she will be happy and have fun in college and then be able to go into life and fulfil her dreams! We'll be alright without seeing her everyday--won't we????

Friday was Jessica's last bowling trip of the year. It has been so much fun to watch those kids as they have grown throughout this year. Bowling a game went so much quicker Friday than it did at the first of the year. A BIG shout out to Wendy, Melissa and Charlotte for all their hard work and love this year!

We did get to spend Mother's Day with most of Kenny's family. My Mom and Dad left after church Sun. AM for Tennessee, so had lunch at the Holton's. Toni, Beth, and Jeff were there and parts of all of their families.

Today was Senior Chapel!!! I haven't downloaded those pictures but I will so be watching for that post. Don and his girls-except Laurie, are coming in Friday for graduation. Can't wait to see them!!!

Last night was Annual Dedication. Samantha and Brandon Bennett were the editors of the yearbook and they were also the Senior Class Favorites. I think Samantha also received "Wittiest" and "Best All-Around". She looked so pretty and I don't even want to start thinking about her graduating yet...I am sure I will cry!!

Jessica really enjoyed seeing her basket this year. In the past, we have just had to "force her" to look at everything...not this year, she was tearing into it!! Dying Eggs

Might I start by saying until you have dyed Easter eggs with Jess-by yourself-I'm not sure your life is complete--

We started Saturday night around 7. She really did well for the first 6-7 eggs, then she got really bored with it. I was waiting on her to decide that the dye might look good on her...or the table...or the floor-you get the point. She did get very excited when the egg went in white and came out pink-she has such an amazing mom! Don't tell her that anyone can do that!

Spring Break-April 3-12

Our Spring Break this year was very uneventful. We left on Saturday after Jess got out of school-we had one extra day because of the rain-and went to North Georgia. Kenny had to speak in LaFayette Sunday morning and in Marietta on Sunday night. We did just take our time and spent Sat. and Sun. night away. On Monday, we shopped all the way home, something I can rarely get Kenny to do! We found several things and really enjoyed ourselves.

The rest of the week, Kenny worked and Jess and I just "chilled out"! We got to sleep alittle later and stay up later, so we really had a good week. It was very cool the first of the week so there was definately no swimming at our house. I am hoping in the next week or so we can get the pool ready because it is torture for Jess to even go in the back yard, or on the back porch when she can't go in the water!!!!

We had our egg hunt at school on Tuesday (3/31) before they got out for Spring Break because one of their teachers got married on that Saturday and we wanted her there! We had a really good time and the last of the beautiful days before our flood began-so everything worked out great! If the President of the United States of America wants to poke fun at his bowling skills, why didn't he make some comment like it was as bad as our Senate trying to straighten out the economy! Why did he want to pick on special needs kids (people)? By the way, his 129 only beat Jessica today by a small margin...she bowled a 97!!! You would think the President would think before he would make comments like this! And his apology was just trying to cover up his blunder, AGAIN!!!!

Jessica and I left Friday with Mom and Dad. It was a beautiful day in Valdosta and we were heading for Dublin and the soceer tournament. By the time we got out of the car in Douglas for a potty break-the temp had begun to drop! And by the time we got it Dublin-it was down right COLD! I had checked out the forecast on the computer, so I was fairly prepared, but some of our fans had on shorts at the game Friday night!!!! It was cool but we were in the football stadium so the wind was blocked some. On Saturday morning at 9:30, we were on the soceer field and there was nothing to block the wind-it was 45 and breezy!!!! The sun was NOT out but at least it didn't rain on us. After that game, we went to Cracker Barrel and got a cup of soup and tried to warm up. The last game was back in the stadium so it was not as bad as the early game!!! We lost 2 and won 1. They really played pretty good-at least I thought they did...I don't know much about soceer and Mary Jo is not here anymore to explain it to me! :)

Kenny came up Saturday afternoon and he and I left and went to Atlanta. Jess went home with Mom and Dad. Let me just say, our week-end weather did not get any better. It started raining on us and it was then RAINY and COLD!!! It rained all night Sat. and most of Sunday. I don't think the temp ever got about about 48! After speaking Sun. Morning at Thomas Crossroads, we met Toni and Chris and had lunch and got to hang out with them the rest of the afternoon. Then we headed to So. Cobb to speak Sunday night. As soon as we could get out of the building we headed south and thankfully the temp began going up...even at night. It was warmer went we got the at 11:15 than it had been all day!

We did have a nice week-end though, even with the cold and rain! Thanks to Mom and Dad for letting Jess spend the night with them and to Samantha for bringing her home and then getting her in bed!!! What am I going to do when she goes to Faulkner in the fall???? We really enjoyed getting to visit with Toni and Chris and are hoping that they will be able to be building soon down here!

New Sunday dress we got to "break-out" with the spring weather!

We have had a really busy week. Kenny and I were suppose to be out of town last week-end and we had a death at church and wanted to be here for the funeral on Sunday-so we had to cancel until this week-end. Jess got to go to church on Sunday with Nana and Papa in Quitman because Kenny was singing at the funeral and I was helping feed the family immediately after worship. Thanks,Mom for coming and getting her and Kristen for bringing her home! Today Jess and I are going with Mom and Dad to Dublin to Samantha's socceer tournament and then Kenny is going to pick me up. We will head to Atlanta for him to speak twice and Karen and Ervin will bring Jess home from Dublin and keep her Sat. night. I think Sunday afternoon Samantha is bringing her home and going to stay until we get home, probably around midnight! Karen finally said just don't worry about Jessica-someone will take care of her! :)

By the way...how about our South Ga. weather!!!! Can I hear some cheering for springtime!!?!!!

I know we talk about our kids all the time and how we spoil them-we go to Wal-Mart, and they get something-we go to Publix, and they get something...you get the idea. Well, I have to admit-I am spoiled!! Now, no doubt, I get most things that I want, even in today's economy, if I really want something, I usually get it!

But-I want warm weather!!!! I have lived in So. Ga too long to have freezing temperatures in March!! I love cold weather and I really love the change of seasons, but it's time for the season to change down here! It wouldn't be so bad if Saturday it had not been 80 then Sunday morning we woke up to 50 and that was the high!! It got colder all day! What makes it worse is that since before Christmas they started putting out spring clothes and they all look so cute-I surely don't want to cover them up with a winter coat!

Oh, well-that's my rant for today. Actually, today the weather is beautiful, COOL, but gorgeous! I just want it to warm up so I can get outside and work in my yard and clean up the pool! Hopefully, by Thursday the temperature is suppose to be in the low 70's and that should be nice for Jessica's Special Olympics Track and Field Day! Pray for no rain!!!

Samantha has had a great career on the basketball court and has had great support all the way through. Friday night was no exception! Her parents have been at games even when they had to take off work. Her grandparents have been that-Grand! Nana and Papa, through the years have missed very few if any games that any grandchild has been playing in and Samantha has been no exception to that! Back early from out of town trips and scheduling out of the country trips around her games. She also has a great group at church that support her and the rest of her family! As quickly as the "bug" came on Jess...it was gone! She didn't suffer too long and actually slept most of yesterday. Today she is still dragging but I hope just trying to regain her strength. She slept throught the night and had stayed with Kenny last night during the ball game.

Now there is another topic that was over before we realized...Samantha's Sr. year of basketball. After a super season, they got beat last nigth in the quarter-finals of the state tournament. They really didn't play a very good game and got beat by a team that on any other night, we would have beaten! But, that's the way it goes! For those that might be wondering-BASKETBALL AT GCS IS NOW OVER! The girls had a great year and I have been so proud of Samantha. Walker, Leigh, Nathan and Dustin all came from Montgomery to see her play last night. There were many tears after the game, and I have to admit-I shed some, too. If you have followed my blog long, you know that Samantha has been special to me for a long time but especially since Jess was born! Jess and Kenny didn't get to go last night-he stayed with her and let me go-Thank-you, Kenny! But like I have told him many times, I think Samantha would rather have Uncle Kenny there than me! ; )

Life will go on and socceer will start and be over, too before we can turn around. I am excited for Samantha and the plans that she is making, but boy,oh, boy-how I am going to miss her!!! Love you, Samantha!!

CONGRATULATIONS, LADY GENERALS!!!!

It wasn't pretty, but the Lady Generals won again last night! After trailing most of the game, Samantha got hot and hit a few threes and Augusta made a couple of much needed buckets. The game-tier came from Alana with 7 seconds to play when she hit the 3!!!! The girls really worked together-mainly at the end of the game and pulled it out. The OT had to be played with Jeffords and Rachel on the beach! I think it says something for us, when you are not playing your best and you can keep the game close enough to win!!!!! That little team was sooooo excited and I was so happy for Samantha-I guess I can say that since it is my blog and she is my niece!!

The boys play Terrell tonight and the girls play again tomorrow nightat 7 against Briarwood. Keep your fingers crossed for another victory and we will be in the FINAL 4!!!

I am so excited for Samantha today! They are playing the 1st round of their state tourney! It is at Andrews College in Cuthbert. I am hoping she will have a big cheering section from Montgomery-HINT,HINT! We are planning on leaving around 3, so we can eat and find the gym in time for the girls to run out. Last night Samantha and the Lady Generals won the region tournament!!! All 5 starters for GCS were named to the All-Region team and they advance to the State tournament to begin on Wednesday! I am so proud of all the girls but especially of Samantha. She has worked really hard for this and I couldn't be more happy for her! The boys will play on Thurs and both teams will be traveling to Andrews College which is pretty close to the Alabama line, so please keep all the kids and fans in your prayers as they travel.

Today we had the busy but best day I can remember in awhile. We left Jessica's school around 9 and headed for the high school for the 1st Annual Future Vikings Dance! The buses were greeted by 2 LONG lines of students that were cheering and clapping for the Sp. Ed. students. It almost brings a tear to my eyes just remembering-it was so sweet. Then we got inside and the party really began. The music was up and the kids were going "wild". Actually, they were pretty well behaved but had such a great time. Jessica really loved it because the music was up and she could just run around!! The high school kids were so sweet and just danced around and asked all the "guest" if they would like to dance. They were dancing all around for 1 1/2 hours! I was exhausted when it was over but also so proud of the young people that are being raised in our community. So many times we just hear about the "bad" ones, well, today I witnessed some great ones! They all lined up to tell the kids good-bye and have them each a Valentine treat! What a great morning!

We left the dance and went to Chick-Fil-A for lunch and then back to school for cupcakes and juice while the kids enjoyed their Valentines. A side story about the cupcakes---I rushed home yesterday after school, I've been teaching for a week and a half and then frosted them after church. They were pretty cute for a mix!! Well, going into school this morning I dumped them over in the carrier!! Needless to say, when we gave them to the kids this afternoon, they were NOT very cute! OH WELL, the kids ate them anyway.

Back to our day, all the children seemed to enjoy themselves so much and Jessica and I left school, came and picked Kenny up and took off for Samantha's region tournament! They won but it was not very pretty either-kind of reminded me of my cupcakes! :) Anyway, they play in the finals tomorrow night-Congrats, Sam and good luck tomorrow!

Last Sunday, we had a birthday party for Samantha and Austin. Their birthdays are just one day apart, so Samantha decided to have a combined party. Most of the girls and boys ball teams were here and I think everyone had a good time. We had Wii in the living room and corn hole in the back yard. The weather cooperated so everyone just moved from outside to inside and did whatever they wanted. You know how teen ages are---I would have never tried to "plan" activities for them!!! Samantha had a some kind of virus and by the end of the afternoon she was completely exhausted, but I think she enjoyed it, too.

I know this is late but I have been subbing all last week and until Jess gets out for Winter Break this week!!! Hope you are all having a good week. Please continue to remember Laurie in your prayers. She is trying to get into see another Dr. that will hopefully give her some NICER news!!

We had a great week-end in Montgomery and getting to see all of "the fam". Thanks to Dirt and Louise for letting us spend the night with them on Saturday and to Laurie, Leigh, Walker and JORDAN who all, along with Dirt, Louise, Rachel, our true TN fan and one lone Auburn fan, took time out of their busy schedules to go to the basketball game with us. We had a great time and can't wait to do it again next year-when our Lady Vols will have some "Pat-experience".

It was a very emotional day-even if Samantha hadn't gotten hurt in the previous game-but with her not knowing if she would be able to play or not, the tention was high among the "Walker clan". She was able to start but only played 3-4 minutes before she told her coach she needed to come out. That was the end of Samantha's last home ballgame! She "hopped" out to center court to meet her Mom and Dad, and I was afraid that she was going to "totally lose it", she got control and did very well. We have watched Samantha grow up and it is hard for me to even think of her being a graduate and not being around next year!!! I am proud of you, Samantha and love you!

I know this is late, and today is Samantha's last home ballgame-but I wanted to get this posted. We are leaving after the game today for Montgomery, so it will be the first of the week before I'll be able to post about Senior Night and Jessica's first Lady Vols' basketball game. By the way, we spent an hour at Youth Care today. Jess has a slight ear infection but not enought to keep us home!!!!

Prayers for Samantha

Please be praying for Samantha. She was playing last night in her basketball game and hurt her ankle. Karen and Ervin took her to the hospital and they did find out that it wasn't broken-but the Dr. told her he thought if she stayed off of it until Monday she would be OK! That's great, except that Saturday is Sr. Day at the last home ballgame. Karen said she just "fell apart". I know to those of us that face and have faced problems that are so much greater, this request seems petty. But to an 18 year old that is finishing up her high school career, this is devastating. Just keep her in your prayers-she is a tough kid and she will be alright, but I will hate it if she has to miss this "big" day. Thanks!

OK, OK...it has been some time since Jessica's birthday and Samantha's last homecoming at GCS. In between all of that, Kenny has been trying to get paper work ready for his Board Meeting and I had a luncheon to help prepare and decorate for! I know, I know-everyone is busy-so just call me a bad Mom, but I am going to try and catch up now!

After Jessica's party at school, plans quickly began for her family party on Sunday. We had a "Tinkerbell" party with a great cake, created by Ka-Ka. Karen has always made Jessica's cakes and does such a great job. I guess if Samantha becomes a pastry chef we will turn if over to her, but until then-Karen has the job!! Thanks, Karen-it was beautiful and delicious! We had a good crowd this year with 16 making it. We always miss the ones that can't come but have a good time with everyone here.

The day before the party was a super busy day! Jessica and I got up, after Kenny who left home at 5:30 AM, and got dressed and then went and started green beans for a group of 50. After the beans were simmering, we left for a Baby Shower out near Moody that started at 10. At 11, we left and picked up food from the Gold Plate, delivered Jessica to Mom and Dad at our house and then I went to the Dining Room at the Children's Home to get ready for the board to come for dinner. RTV has just found out that after 2 LONG years, we are COA accredited. May not sound like much to you but Statewide it is a great deal!!!

Before the lunch was over, I had to leave to hurry to GCS' Homecoming! Samantha was on the court and looked BEAUTIFUL!!!! No need for me to go into alot about Samantha, just let me say, she had been special -- and she was the "baby" for a long time!!! No rivalry, or resentment from her...she ADORES Jessica - and the feeling is mutual!

After a super busy week-end-it finally ended! Jessica didn't have school on Monday, so we just hibernated and with the cold weather it was a great day for it! Plus, I have been battling sinus trouble and Monday and Tuesday the sinus was winning. Finally, today I am beginning to feel better!

Saturday is Samantha's last home basketball game and so we will be there to celebrate with her. Immediately following, we are going to leave for Montgomery to visit Jordan, Walker, Laurie, Louise and Dirt and Leigh! To top off the week-end we are all going to see the Lady Vols play Auburn on Sunday afternoon. Kenny, Jess and I will leave Sunday evening and come home! We are looking forward to seeing everyone in AL, just hope it warms up a little!!!

Yesterday at school, we had Jessica's party for her birthday. I had bought plastic cups with straws for each child and plates and napkins to match. We chose a zoo theme so the cupcakes were frosted with a tip that made the frosting look like grass and each one had a "toothpick" animal in it. They really turned out cute and I think all the kids, including Jess had a good time!

I love a New Year's Day when you don't have to do anything!!! We got up late, I think Jessica slept until 9:30-10:00!!! She woke up to "Mickey Mouse" pancakes! Thank you, Samantha for the egg/pancake molds!

The 12 Days of Christmas...

Well, I believe that we did have the 12 days of Christmas-we started on Dec. 24 and finished on Jan. 4! It was a great season and I really enjoyed it this year. Don't get me wrong, I am glad it is over, that school has started back and we can get back into some kind of a routine, but I do love Christmas.

We had Christmas with my side of the family last Sunday. Everyone was here but Laurie on Friday night so we got to visit with them some and then Laurie got here Sunday afternoon and got to stay until Friday morning. Louise and Dustin stayed with us and we loved having them! Leigh and Nathan stayed at the Stranges' and Don and Jamie stayed with Mom and Dad. Laurie moves around so much it would be impossible to list where she stayed!:)

We had a great lunch Sunday after church and then got to finish opening presents! As one season ends and the New Year begins, I am already beginning to think of things to make next year better...it that is possible!

We are getting ready for a full week-end with the Holtons and next week-end with the Walkers, so again we will be partying for a full week! Hope you all have a great holiday. We all have so many things to be thankful for, no matter what Santa might "forget"! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

Please remember the Armstrong family in your prayers this week-end. Mike lost his battle with cancer. The funeral will be Saturday and the visitation is Friday night.

Yesterday was Kenny's birthday! It just happened to come in the middle of all the confusion of a Tour of Homes and Samantha and Austin's basketball games, so needless to say-not alot of celebrating! We did eat dinner with his Mom and Dad before Samantha's game and arrived at the gym just in time to hear her name announced!! Kenny is a great husband and daddy! He always seems to find a way to get us just about anything we want! I was very lucky to find him-and by the way-I did take him out to Red Lobster today for lunch!

In all the hustle and bustle of trying to get everything ready for our Tour of Homes today-last night there was the sweetest tap at our door. Kenny answered it and there was Sara Jackson and her precious kids! They were delivering Christmas goodies and we were lucky to be on their route! I think it is so great that every year Sara takes the time to cook and deliver goodies WITH her kids, when there was just one and now with 4! What a great tradition, Sara and thanks for including us!!! Merry Christmas!

The Stockings Are...

Well, actually, my stocking are still in the attic...but everything else is probably just like it is going to stay! I have been working all morning getting ready for our Ladies Bible Class Tour of Homes tomorrow, while Nikki was cleaning my house. OK, OK...I do have a girl come in twice a month and clean really good for me. It gives me a chance to have EVERYTHING clean at once, no cleaning out drawers or going through magazines that usually slows me down and then I never get finished! OH, well, as long as I can work a day or two and afford it, I love it!!!!

Meanwhile, tomorrow is the Tour of Homes AND Kenny's birthday! With a ballgame tomorrow night and shopping to do Wed and Thurs. and Jessica's Christmas party at school on Friday-that about wraps up my week!! Can you believe that Christmas is a week from Thursday!! And here the weather is not cooperating! It is suppose to be 75-80 most of this week! So much for wearing Christmas sweaters!

Dad is having catarac (sp?) surgery today in Chattanooga so hopefully soon we will hear that everything went well and they will be home tomorrow.

Pictures With Santa

Well, last night we got all dressed up and headed to the mall to see if Jess would "visit" with Santa. Of course, we got there and Santa was not there, I guess he had to go and feed the reindeer, but wouldn't be back for 30 minutes. We decided to go into Ruby Tuesday and eat then try again. While only dropping 2 spoonfuls of macaroni on her dress, we left full and ready to see Santa!

He was there and there was just 2 kids in front of us. The "elf" taking pictures and Santa, both were very patient with Jessica and it only took 3 pictures. The 2nd one really had a better smile but she closed her eyes!! I thought overall she did pretty well. She didn't even try to grad his beard, and that would have be bad, because it was real!!!

Everything else around here is slowly beginning to look like Christmas. We don't really know when or if Nathan and Landon will be here, but Santa is coming on Christmas Eve! We will be celebrating with Kenny's family starting Christmas Eve. They are expecting around 37 with 8 under 7 years old!!! The Walkers are going to spend New Year's week-end celebrating. Hopefully, Don, Jamie, Louise, Dustin and Leigh with her "new fella" will be down around New Year's Day and Laurie is planning on coming down on Sunday and staying until Thursday. We will have "our Christmas" on Sun. afternoon and I am sure some of the early arrivers will have to start heading home to get back to work. I like celebrating alittle after the offical day, it gives us time to really visit and enjoy ourselves without worrying about all the "tradition" things that have to happen on Christmas Eve and Day!

Don't even ask if I have my shopping done, but hopefully before Jess gets out of school on the 19th-I'll be finished. So if you see my little silver sleigh flying around, you better get out of my way because I'll be on a mission!!!!

I am going to go ahead and post this even though I was waiting on pictures. Kenny has "borrowed" my cord to my computer and I can't get them off my camera. I will try and post some pictures tonight! Have a good week-

Oh, my! Where is the time going? I promise, it seems like just yesterday school started and now it's Christmas!

The last day of school for Jess before Thanksgiving was very busy. They went bowling and then during the afternoon I went over and we made Thanksgiving cookies. They were Pilgrim hats that I got off of Melissa Lester's blog and they were so cute! The kids loved making them but ate them as fast as we could get them put together! We were trying to let them take at least 2 home, but I'm not sure that all got home with them!

Jessica was out of school all week Thanksgiving week so Sunday after church, Samantha, Jess and I too off for Tennessee! I had not seen any of my family there in years so I just decided to go. Kenny had class and a WHOLE LOT of work so he stayed home. We had a good trip and spent the night at Dad's sister's house. It was so good to see "Kankie" (that is what all of her nieces and nephews call her) and she just loved being able to see Jessica. It was rainy and cold all day Monday so Jess and I didn't even get out of our PJ's until 4 pm and only then because we were going out to Opryland Hotel to see the Christmas lights. It was really a nice day just to relax and get to visit!

Mom and Dad arrived in Nashville around 6 pm and Samantha, Jessica and I took off with them to Opryland. It was beautiful and Jess was amazed by all the lights. I am hoping that next year we can go and take Kenny. Karen, Ervin, Kristen and Walker all came up Wed. morning and were all going to be in TN for Thursday.

On Tues. morning, Jess and I got up and headed home. We didn't get to visit with Aunt Mary or Maribeth and did get to meet Holli but I hope we will be able to go back soon. Now that Kenny realizes that I AM capable of making the trip with just me and Jessica, maybe we can go on a long week-end even.

We returned home to Thanksgiving preparations well underway! Kenny's mom was getting everything ready and I had made my sweet potatoes before I left and put them in the freezer! Toni, Chris and Abbe came down from Atlanta and Jeff and Christal came out so we had around 12 for dinner. It was really good and as always-we ate TOOO much!

Jordan came in during the afternoon and stayed until Sunday and Nathan and Heather came by on Saturday on their way back to Savannah. It was nice to get to them but we missed Landon not being able to come.

Holidays are such a special time and my only regret is that so often we spend so much time getting things ready that we don't have time to really visit. I am looking forward to Christmas because alot of Kenny's family will be around that we have not seen in awhile-but let me go ahead and prepare you for the post-it will be a ZOO! We are going to have 8 kids, all under 7!!! It will be fun Christmas but what do you do with all of them before and after the gifts are opened??

Well, it's finally over...the much anticipated 50th birthday bash! We celebrated on Saturday at Kenny's mom and dad's house with Jordan and our families. Karen, Ervin and Samantha came over and Toni and Abbe came down from Atlanta. Kerry was here and Jeff, Christal and Austin came out to help celebrate! Jordan and I have shared our birthdays for the last 10 years and I can't think of anyone better to share with. We had a "dual" cake this year that was very creative and very good! The gifts and card were enjoyable and most of mine were very 50ish! We had a good time and as soon as the party was over, the men took off for our house to our house to watch OU play football! Most of the ladies stayed at the Holton's and just enjoyed visiting. We missed everyone who couldn't come but truly appreciate all the "well-wishes"...you know I really need them now that I have joined that 50's club!!!

It's funny though because I really don't feel like I am 50. Maybe it is because I am still having to chase a 7 year old around-someone said maybe that is the advantage of having kids later-no time to get old! I must admit that I do have a few sore muscles and joints that ache , but that is not something that just hit me at 50! So I guess all I have to look forward to now is getting old enough to get that ever popular Sr. Citizens Discount!!!

Today is Jordan's 23 birthday! He came home last night and is planning on spending the week-end! It is always nice to have him home! It is hard to believe that he was 12 when Kenny and I got married. He lived with us until he went off to school so I feel like he is part mine, anyway! He has "fit" into the Walker family so well and all the cousins love him, too! I hope that he will be able to graduate from Faulkner in the next year and find a job that he will enjoy-maybe with today's ecomony, I need to just hope he finds a job-period!

He is a great young man and deserves much happiness in his life! I love you, Jordan!
